TOUGH ACTION BY COURT AGAINST KENT COUNTERFEITER

Lawrence Barratt, a 32-year-old from Chatham, Kent, was found guilty at Woolwich Crown Court on 8 December 2009 of breaching the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988 by manufacturing and selling counterfeit DVDs.

Barratt was sentenced to two years suspended imprisonment, plus 175 hours unpaid work requirement and ordered to pay £750 costs.

£50,000 WORTH OF COUNTERFEIT DVDS SEIZED IN N. IRELAND RAIDS

A 36 year old man from Belfast has been charged with two offences related to counterfeiting after a proactive police operation yesterday. The man will appear at Newtownards Magistrates Court on 11 January.

Two other men,aged 32 and 41, are still being questioned by detectives from the PSNI's Organised Crime Branch.

LANDMARK RULING IN SCOPELIGHT CASE

Sitting in the High Court of Justice Lord Justices Ward, Wilson & Leveson ruled in favour of an appeal by FACT and the Chief Constable of Northumbria Police on appeal from the High Court of Justice against a determination of a preliminary issue as to the proper construction of section 22 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (“PACE”).
