FACT Accreditation Scheme
FACT is a private limited company
formed in 1983 by the major film companies to
combat film piracy. We are a non-profit company
– all income is spent on the fight against
piracy.
One of the key issues with
piracy is to reduce any risk of legitimate film
products falling into the ‘wrong hands’
and then being copied.
On behalf of the film industry
FACT operates an accreditation system. Businesses
who wish to carry out work either directly or
indirectly for the film industry can assure an
adequate level of security by becoming FACT accredited.
FACT carries out an inspection
of the business. Those companies that meet the
criteria in both their security and working practices
are accredited for a period of twelve months.
A further inspection takes place each year and
FACT reserve the right to make unannounced visits
throughout the year.
The main points under scrutiny
are:
- Main outlay of the building.
- Alarm systems.
- CCTV Systems (and storage
oftapes/hard drive).
- Security at windows (eg
caged orgrilled).
- Keyholders for premises.
- Internal security for any
master discsor sensitive materials.
- Audit trails.
- System for damaged or faulty
goods.
- Staff vetting.
- System for visitors.
- I.T. Security
This list is not exhaustive
and is tailored to the type of business carried
out. Security has to be commensurate with the
risk to the product.
Additional information such
as ISO registration or registration under The
Aviation Act (for companies having security clearance
for airports) is taken into account.
The system of Accreditation
ensures that as far as possible, film products
are only handled by reputable and credible firms
who have good security procedures in place.
The Accreditation Fee is £1500
plus VA.T. (£1762.50p) for UK sites (£1500
plus travelling costs for non-UK sites) payable
on an Annual basis.
Once accredited a certificate
of Accreditation is issued which can be displayed
in any reception area, and the company is entitled
to use the ‘FACT’ logo on any correspondence
or advertising. Your company name and nature of
your business will also be added to our Website,
and a full list of accredited companies is circulated
to our Members every 2 months.
Due to the increase in film
piracy our Member Companies will now only use
companies which have satisfactory security arrangements
in place to protect their valuable product. FACT
accredited companies automatically satisfy that
requirement.
