Location: Stirlingshire, Scotland
On 6th June 2008 officers from Central Scotland Police and FACT executed a search warrant at a residential property in Stirlingshire, Scotland, home to the subject who was suspected to be involved in child abuse.
A large amount of counterfeit discs were seized at the premises. Cannabis and images of child abuse were also discovered in the search by police.
Hampshire Police received a complaint from a member of the public who had purchased a film from a Chinese DVD seller. When the member of the public subsequently viewed the disc, he found that it contained scenes of paedophilia and reported the matter immediately to the Police. Hampshire Police carried out a series of observations at a local trading estate and arrested the Chinese male. The male was found in possession of a number of pedophiliac discs. A section 18 house search was carried out at the male’s home address and further 818 DVDs and pornographic discs were seized.
A routine stop of a male street seller by Trading Standards in South London highlighted the worrying link between DVD piracy and obscene pornography. The street seller was caught with 150 DVDs in his satchel. When prompted for pornographic material, the man revealed 30 pornographic DVDs. During examination, it emerged that some of the pornographic DVDs contained a mixture of heavily pregnant women and young pubescent girls. The paedophilic material contained a mixture of South East Asian girls and Western girls. The matter was immediately furthered to the Metropolitan Police Child Protection Directorate, and the DVDs to the Paedophile Squad Intelligence Unit for further investigation.
FACT and law enforcement partners have witnessed an increase in the amount of pornographic and obscene material available alongside counterfeit Hollywood blockbusters and family favourites.
Associated crime types: Paedophilic material and obscene pornography
The alarming link between Paedophilia
and DVD piracy was highlighted in a routine raid
carried out in October last year. Following a
complaint from a local school that a coffee shop
was selling counterfeit DVDs, Trading Standard
officers searched the property and found a thousand
DVDs and CDs. The investigation also uncovered
two burners and one computer. Forensic analysis
of the computer revealed Paedophiliac material
and the matter was immediately furthered to the
North Wales High Tech Crime Unit who carried out
forensic analysis. The case is currently ongoing.
