Lothian and Borders Police have seized approximately 10,000 counterfeit DVDs after a house search in Edinburgh. As well as the DVDs, PS2 games, three DVD burning towers and a computer were also recovered from the property in the Howdenhall area.
Officers also found drugs, swords, knives and a stun-gun during the search. A 40-year-old man has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with the discovery.
Strathclyde Police arrested eight men in connection with alleged criminal activity at Paddy’s Market, Glasgow. In the early hours of the morning officers went to the homes of the men, aged between 16 and 46 years, and detained them in connection with the alleged sale and supply of drugs at the market.
The operation, which aims to impact on the antisocial behaviour and crime in the area, saw over 100 officers, including the support unit and the dog branch, working alongside the UK Border Agency, Glasgow City Council, FACT, Department of Work and Pensions and BPI (British Recorded Music Industry).
Thousands of pounds worth of DVDs, including pornographic material, and CDs, along with clothing, all believed to be counterfeit, were seized. Officers from the UK Border Agency recovered over 101,000 contraband cigarettes and 21 kilos of tobacco.
On 6th June 2008 officers from Strathclyde Police executed a search warrant in North Lanarkshire, at the home address of the subject who was suspected of handling stolen goods. Whilst there, the officers recovered 4,000 counterfeit DVDs, 30 music CDs, 100 console games and 10 DVD burners. A fight ensued and the subject was arrested for Police assault. He was detained in custody and later released on bail for the assault.
A man carrying 190 counterfeit DVDs was arrested at an address in Glasgow by Strathclyde Police for possessing infringing copies of films, obscene pornography including bestiality titles, possession of cannabis and police assault.
